GridLiance West is a transmission-only utility formed to partner with electric cooperatives, public power, and renewable energy developers in the California Independent System Operator Corporation (CAISO) region to plan for the future of the grid, invest in electric infrastructure, and implement strategies that meet its partners' ownership, capital investment and operational goals.
GridLiance West owns and operates the high voltage transmission system (HVTS) previously owned by valley electric Transmission association, LLC (VETA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Valley Electric Association, Inc. The HVTS consists of approximately 165 miles of 230 kV transmission lines and related substation infrastructure that runs through rural Southern Nevada from the Desert View Substation north of Las Vegas to the Mead Substation just outside of Boulder City. The HVTS has been incorporated into the CAISO-controlled grid, and GridLiance West is a non-load-serving Participating Transmission Owner in CAISO.
CAISO, in its 2017-2018 transmission plan, said it expects the Sloan Canyon project to save members about $180 million over its 40-year lifespan.
