Panhandle Reliability Project

Oklahoma Panhandle

Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) members in the Oklahoma Panhandle contend with severe weather on a regular basis, from wind speeds that often exceed 20 miles per hour to ice storms and tornados. In the past, severe weather disrupted electric transmission service in the region for days, if not weeks.

GridLiance undertook the Panhandle Reliability Project to reduce the number and duration of transmission outages that disrupted life for TCEC members. For this project, one of three in the Panhandle, GridLiance constructed a new 115/69kV station, a new 20-mile 115 kV line, and rebuilt 5 miles of existing 69kV line that was more than 50 years old.

As a result, overall system performance has been improved, increasing the reliability and service levels on the system. Strict outage scheduling limitations were respected throughout the construction.
