Nixa Transmission Reliability Upgrades

Nixa, Missouri

Outages in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) were overloading the City of Nixa’s 69 kV transmission system, disrupting life for residents and businesses.

To improve reliability on the system, GridLiance rebuilt 1.25 miles of 69 kV transmission line between the GridLiance Espy Substation and the GridLiance Downtown Substation. This required construction in an urban area along major highways -- and during the holiday season, so it was important to also maintain service to retail customers as construction proceeded. Coordination with city, county, and state highway agencies was also critical.

The successful upgrades eliminated the line rating limitation on the City of Nixa’s facilities that had been caused by regional outage concerns.
